GROUND WATER MONITORING WORK PLAN
DREDGE MATERIAL DISPOSAL SITE 1,ROBERTS ISLAND,PORT OF STOCKTON
Table 2: Water Sample Intervals
GEOLOGIC
MATERIAL RATIONALE
Dredge materials Characterize water in the dredge material.
Peat Layer Characterize water in the underlying peat material.
Sandy aquifer Characterize water in the shallow aquifer.
The samples will be gently conveyed into laboratory-supplied containers appropriate for the
types of analyses specified below. The water sample container will be sealed, labeled, and
placed in a cooler containing ice immediately after collection. The label will identify the top of
the sample interval and will include boring number, sample depth, date and time of sample
collection, and sampler's initials. The samples will be transported to the designated state-
certified laboratory following standard chain-of-custody protocols.
3.1.2.6 Surface Water Sampling
Surface water samples will be collected from the San Joaquin River and from Bums Cutoff. The
water will be collected by lowering a one liter glass bottle beneath the surface and then
decanting the surface water into laboratory-supplied containers for the appropriate type of
analyses.
The water sample container will be sealed, labeled, and placed in a cooler containing ice
immediately after collection. The label will identify the top of the sample interval and will
include boring number, sample depth, date and time of sample collection, and sampler's
initials. The samples will be transported to the designated state-certified laboratory following
standard chain-of-custody protocols.
3.1.2.7 Boring Completion
Upon completion of all sampling and data collection activities, the borings will be tremie
grouted to ground surface using a mixture of neat cement and bentonite clay. The top of the
boring will be finished similar to surrounding materials.
A licensed surveyor will locate each boring relative to mean sea level elevation. The boring
locations will also be located laterally within the NAD 23 coordinate system using GPS
equipment.
Dredge materials generated from the borings will be left on-site. Water and wastewater
generated from investigative and decontamination activities will be placed in a 55-gallon DOT
January 2005 Page 12 Environmental Risk Services,Corp.
