../
Kennedy/Jenks Consahants
Section 2: Site and Physical Setting
This section presents a short summary of the physical setting of the site and vicinity, including a
current description of the site, climatic and hydrologic conditions, soil characteristics, and
geology and hydrogeology. A more detailed discussion of these attributes is provided in
previous documents, such as the Background Groundwater Quality Standard Report submitted
on 28 June 2013(Kennedy/Jenks 2013a), or the Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan,
submitted on 19 September 2013(Kennedy/Jenks 2013b).
2.1 Facility Description
2.7.7 Facility Location
Sutter Home was founded in 1874 in Napa Valley, and was purchased in 1947 by the Trinchero
Family. Sutter Home's Westside Lodi facility(or site)was initially constructed in 1998 on
297 acres owned by Sutter Home. The winery, process wastewater ponds, and existing LAAs
are located on these 297 acres.
The facility, which consists of winery-related structures and associated LAAs, is located at
18667 Jacob Brack Road, Lodi in San Joaquin County, adjacent to Interstate Highway 5. The
existing site occupies Assessor's Parcel Nos. 011-15-12, 011-15-23, 011-09-03, and 011-09-14
in Sections 34 and 35, Township 4N, Range 5E of the Mount Diablo Base and Meridian. The
location of the facility is shown on Figure 1.
The post-expansion facility features are shown on Figure 2. As discussed above, in July 2013,
Sutter Home purchased 233 acres of the Patane property to the west of the site (including
portions of Parcel Nos. 011-09-04 and 011-09-05) to provide additional LAA for increased
process wastewater discharge.
2.2 Site Characteristics
Condor Earth Technologies, Inc. (Condor) installed seven groundwater monitoring wells near
the initial 15.5-acre LAA and at other locations within the site in 2002. Three additional
groundwater monitoring wells were installed to evaluate the sanitary wastewater mound system;
these three wells were properly destroyed when the sanitary wastewater system was relocated
onsite. As the facility operations expanded and additional LAAs were created, Kennedy/Jenks
subsequently installed 15 additional groundwater monitoring wells (GW-8 through GW-22) and
replaced one that had been damaged (GW-22 with GW-22R). Figure 3 shows the locations of
the existing onsite groundwater monitoring wells. Monitoring well construction details are
summarized in Table 1.
Groundwater is generally encountered at depths of less than 10 feet below ground surface
(bgs), so monitoring wells have been drilled to a maximum of 20 feet bgs. However,
Kennedy/Jenks drilled one boring to 50 feet bgs for soil characterization purposes in 2013.
Monitoring Well Replacement Work Plan Page 2
Sutter Home Winery, Lodi, California
g:Yspaup\etlminyobAB'OB&WO5.15 wtleMme'AB rapwtaMw install wptaxtdo
