WORK PLAN
FOR GROUND WATER WELL INSTALLATION AND MONITORING
PORT OF STOCKTON-ROUGH AND READY ISLAND,CALIFORNIA
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR
1910.120, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Responses, a site Health and
Safety Plan (HSP) will be prepared for use while conducting the proposed field
sampling activities. The HSP will be read and approved by the Project Manager, a
Quality Assurance Reviewer, and the On-site Safety Officers of all subcontractors
working at the Site.
3.2 TASK 2: MONITOR WELL INSTALLATION
3.2.1 Monitor Well Location
Ten monitor wells will be installed at five locations shown on Figure 2. Each location
will have two wells installed, screened in the shallow peat and deeper sand water
bearing zones (e.g. MW-1s and MW-1p). The purpose of the monitor wells is to enable
collection of ground water samples from the saturated dredge sediments, peat layer,
and underlying sandy zone. The rationale for monitor well locations and general
construction details are provided below.
Each location has two wells because one will monitor the peat layer (these wells are
labelled with a p) and one will monitor the sand layer (these are labelled with an s).
• MW-1s, MW-1p: These two wells are located at the northwestern corner of MO-1.
IS MW-2s, MW-2p: These two wells are located near the southwestern corner of
MO-1.
• MW-3s, MW-3p: These two wells are located along the southern margin of MO-1,
and are located near the confluence of the San Joaquin River and Burris Cutoff.
• MW-4s, MW-4pp: These two wells are located along the northern margin of MO-
1, to the northeast of MW-3.
• MW-5s, MW-5p: These two wells are located at the eastern most point of MO-1.
Each monitor well will be constructed with a dedicated borehole, as described in the
following section. The monitor wells at each location will be approximately five feet
apart. The following table summarizes the zones to be monitored at each location.
Monitor Well Geologic Unit to
ID be Screened
Peat Sand
MW-1s X
MW-1 X
MW-2s X
MW-2p X
September 2014 8 Environmental Risk Services S
Corporation %_
