PRELIMINARY SITE ASSESSMENT <br /> On 04 January 2002, four soil borings were advanced at the site to collect soil and ground water <br /> samples as described in the AGE-prepared Preliminary Site Assessment WorkPlan,dated24 October <br /> 2001. TPH-g, TPH-d and TPH-mo were detected in the soil samples collected from borings 131 <br /> l through B4 at concentrations ranging from 0.38 mg/kg to 8,100 mg/kg TPH-g, 400 mg/kg to <br /> 5,500 mg/kg TPH-d and 200 mg/kg to 9,200 mg/kg TPH-mo. Total recoverable petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons (TRPH) was detected in the soil samples collected from borings B 1 through B4 at <br /> l concentrations as high as 36,000 mg/kg(134-30). One or more BTEX compounds were detected in <br /> J the samples collected from borings B 1 through B4,with the exception of the 15-foot soil sample <br /> from B3, at concentrations as high as 45 mg/kg benzene, 630 mg/kg toluene, 150 mg/kg - <br /> I <br /> ethylbenzene and 760 mg/kg total xylenes (B4-30). Seven additional volatile organic compounds <br /> were detected in the soil samples at concentrations ranging from 0.010 mg/kg to 440 mg/kg. Fuel <br /> additives were not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in the soil samples. <br /> TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in the ground water samples collected from borings B 1 through B4 <br /> at concentrations as high as 5,400,000 micrograms per liter(µg/1) and 390,000 µg/1,respectively. <br /> TPH-mu was detected in the ground water sample collected from boringB2 at a concentration of <br /> 12,000 µg/l. BTEX compounds were detected in the same samples at concentrations as high as <br /> 210,000 µg/1 benzene, 540,000 µg/t toluene, 630,000 µgd ethylbenzene and 3,820,000 µgd total <br /> xylenes (B3). Oil and grease was detected in the samples collected from Bl, B2 and B3 at <br /> concentrations as high as 1,500,000 µg/1(B3).BTEX compounds were detected in the groundwater <br /> J samples at concentrations as high as 8.5 µg/1 benzene, 150 µg/l toluene, 120 µg/l ethylbenzene and <br /> 1,300 µg/1 total xylenes. Seven additional volatile organic compounds were detected in the ground <br /> water samples at concentrations ranging from 2,100 µg/l to 2,000,000 µg/l.Fuel additives were not <br /> I� detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in the ground water samples. <br /> A cross-section depicting the general lithology and the concentrations of contaminants in the soil <br /> l beneath the site is illustrated on Figure 3; analytical results of soil and ground water samples are <br /> [ J summarized in Tables 2 and 3.
