(ATC) for the above
subject site and provides the following comments .
In the WP ATC proposes installation of three ozone sparge wells, performing an ozone sparging
pilot test, conducting a bench scale test if found to be appropriate, and preparation of a
feasibility report. The EHD approves of conducting the bench scale test and requires it be
conducted prior to installation of ozone sparge wells and conducting a field pilot study test. The
bench scale test is used to determine the effectiveness of ozone in treating the contaminant and
evaluate if byproducts or breakdown products may be formed in the reaction of ozone with any
naturally occurring metals or minerals in the soil or groundwater. Since the EHD does not
approve of the installation of the proposed ozone sparge wells at this time, a work plan must be
submitted that includes proposed soil and ground water sample locations and the number of
samples to be collected for conducting the bench scale bench test. This work plan should be
submitted within 60 days of the date of this letter.
In the QR, ATC recommends reducing the frequency of groundwater monitoring sampling in
selected monitoring wells to semi-annual . The EHD approves of reducing the groundwater
sampling schedule as follows until a groundwater remediation system is operated at this site:
MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-8 , MW-9 , and MW-10 sampled biennially; MW-7 sampled annually;
MW- 1 , MW-2 , and MW-3 sampled semi-annually; and discontinuation of sampling Canapa's
Well (MW-4) . Prior to operation of a groundwater remediation system , a new sampling
schedule must be proposed and approved .
If you have any questions , please contact Frank Girardi , at (209) 953-7868 .
AJot
Frank Girardi, RENS Margao , RE
Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist Program Coordinator
cc: Jeanne Homsey, ATC Associates Inc. , 1117 Line Palm Avenue Ste 201 , Modesto, CA
95351
James Barton, CVRWQCB
