► Project No. 014-94276
Page No. 2
- 3.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
The project site is currently occupied by an existing Boston Market Restaurant (Figure 2). The
property consists of a single restaurant building with surrot nding concrete sidewalks, asphaltic concrete
paving, and landscaping. Three monitoring wells are locatec on the subject site. Monitoring wells MW-I
and MW-2 are located in the northern portion of the subject site along Kettleman Lane. Monitoring well
MW-6 is located near the southwestern corner of the restau ant building in an area of landscaping.
1r
ION
4.0 GEOLOGIC & HYDROLOGIC SETTING
The topography of the site is relatively level. The s to is located within the northernmost portion
' of the San Joaquin Valley, which is situated between the Sierra Nevada and the Coastal Ranges of
California. The San Joaquin Valley makes up the southern portion of the Great Central Valley.
Unconsolidated materials found in the vicinity of the project site are generally composed of alluvial
' deposits of sands, silty sands, and silts with some minor lays and gravels. The source rock for this
Y
material is primarily the granitic and metamorphic rocks lova Led in the Sierra Nevada. Sediments currently
at or near the surface are believed to be of Quaternary Age (2 million years old or younger) alluvium
derived from the nearby Sierra Nevada.
Sounding data for the site collected by Geraghty& Miller in October of 1994 indicated that depth
to groundwater was approximately 65 feet below grade with groundwater flow in a southerly direction.
Sounding data gathered during the destruction of the wells on August 19, 1995 shows groundwater to be
approximately 64 feet below grade.
w
f
5.0 BACKGROUND
Three monitoring wells had existed on the subject p operty. Monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-2
were constructed by Geraghty & Miller in October 1994 on behalf of Boston Market as part of its
Ir preaquisition environmental investigation. Construction specifications of these wells are provided in
Appendix A. Monitoring well MW-6 was constructed by B wn& Caldwell in July of 19$7 on behalf of
i ARCO Petroleum and was later damaged accidentally.
