1 KLE/NFELOER
9righr People,Right Solutions.
Soil samples will be collected continuously during the advancement of the pushprobes
at depths ranging from 4 feet to the proposed maximum depth of approximately 16 feet
bgs. During the advancement of the borings, soil samples will be collected using a
Photo Ionization Detector (PID) for lithologic classification and qualitative field
screening. The PID measures ionizable compounds in air in parts per million by volume
(ppmv). Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System.
Kleinfelder proposes collecting 3 soil samples in each of the 4 probes in the UST area
for potential chemical analyses. These 3 soil samples will be collected at 7, 12, and 16
feet bgs from each probe. This may vary depending upon field observations indicating
evidence of petroleum impacted soils. However, we estimate that 3 soil samples from
each boring will be sufficient for the purposes of this assessment.
After collection, the soil samples will be labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody form, and
immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples will be transported under chain-of-
custody control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a chilled
container to a State accredited laboratory to perform the requested analyses.
Kleinfelder is proposing submittal of 12 soil samples during the pushprobe investigation
for the following analyses:
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Diesel Range) [TPH-D] by EPA
Method 8015M/DHS LUFT
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Total Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method
8260
The samples will be submitted on a standard 5 to 10 business day turn-around time.
We anticipate very little waste soil from the geoprobe operation. Waste soil and
equipment decontamination water will be initially contained in 5-gallon buckets and
sealed with lids, labeled with "non-hazardous waste soil" labels, and left on site in the
care of Dameron Hospital. If the soil is found to be contaminated, based on the
laboratory results, then Kleinfelder will supply Dameron Hospital with recommendations
for handling/disposing of the waste soil and water.
Task 3 — Reporting
Upon completion of the field activities and receipt of the analytical results, a draft report of
findings will be prepared for client and agency review. The report will include:
• A description of the field activities, observations, and protocols;
• Tabulated results of soil samples with copies of certified analytical results;
124508.1/ST011 P171 Page 3 of 6 December 28, 2011
Copyright 2011 Kleinfelder
