PES Environmental,Inc.
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
November 15, 2000
Soil samples will be retained for lithologic description and will be recorded by a PES engineer
or geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
After advancing the borings to approximately 3 to 5 feet below the water table, a temporary
groundwater well point will be inserted using 5 feet of screened polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
casing and blank PVC in the remainder of the borehole. Grab groundwater samples will be
collected through the PVC casing with a 1/2-inch diameter stainless steel bailer and decanted
into appropriate pre-cleaned glass sample bottles provided by the project laboratory. Each
sample will be labeled with the project name and number, date, time of collection, and sample
identification number prior to being stored in a chilled, thermally insulated cooler.
Groundwater samples will be analyzed for: (1) aromatic and halogenated volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) using U.S. EPA Test Method 8260B; (2) total petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as gasoline, diesel, and motor oil by U.S. EPA Test Method 8015 modified. In
addition, groundwater samples from the two locations closest to the Applied Aerospace
Structures facility will be analyzed for hexavalent Chromium by U.S. EPA Test Method
218.4. To avoid cross-contamination, all sampling equipment will be decontaminated prior to
and between sampling events. Following completion of the groundwater sampling, the
boreholes will be backfilled with a cement-bentonite grout emplaced by tremie pipe and the
surface will be patched to match the existing surface.
We trust this workplan provides you with the information required at this time and meets with
your approval. If you have any questions or require additional information, please call me at
(415) 899-1600.
Very truly yours,
PFS ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
Marcus A.
