PES Environmental,Inc.
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
November 15, 2000
identified by Accessory Parcel Number 177-020-09. The properties are bounded on the east by
South Airport Way, on the south by Ralph Avenue and Perlman Drive (southeast), on the
north by Duck Creek, and on the west by Duck Creek and the Union Pacific railroad tracks.
The subject properties are vacant and undeveloped at this time, with the exception of a portion
of the Fitch property, which contains a private residence and associated structures. The
properties have historically been used for agricultural purposes.
Industrial facilities present near the subject properties include the Applied Aerospace Structures
located at 3437 South Airport Way, approximately '/a-mile south of the subject property and
the Western Pacific Industrial Park.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The Scope of Work for this investigation includes the following activities: (1) prefield
activities; (2) collection of grab groundwater samples; and (3) laboratory analysis of the
groundwater samples. These activities are described in the following sections.
Prefield Activities
A site-specific Health and Safety Plan prepared by PFS for the proposed sampling activities is
provided as an attachment to this workplan. Prior to drilling, PES will contract a private
underground utility locating service to perform a geophysical survey to clear the proposed
sampling locations of subsurface utilities. Underground Service Alert will also be contacted to
schedule visits by public and private utility companies. Each company will locate its utility
with the aid of maps, and the locating service will verify and mark these locations.
Grab Groundwater Sampling
PFS will collect grab groundwater samples from borings advanced along the southern property
boundaries of the two properties at the seven proposed locations shown on Plate 2. Grab
groundwater samples will be collected from below saturated depths. The groundwater
sampling methodologies are described below.
The soil borings will be drilled using a direct push sampling system. Soil samples will be
collected by simultaneously driving two nested sampling rods. The smaller inner rod will be
used for collecting the soil samples and the larger outer rod will serve as a temporary drive
casing. As the rods are advanced by percussion hammer, soil will be driven into a 1 1/4-inch
diameter, 3-foot long sampling tube attached to the inner rods.
58901201 WOOL.doc
