(Aegis), requested the monitoring and sampling interval
be reduced to annually. The San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental
Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD) responded in a letter dated June 30, 1993, stating the site
should be sampled in October 1993. After reviewing the results, the SJCPHS/EHD would
then consider reducing the monitoring and sampling interval to annually. The results
were submitted to your office in a report dated January 12, 1994.
Petroleum hydrocarbons have not been indicated in laboratory analyses of groundwater
samples collected in 10 of the 13 groundwater monitoring and sampling events conducted
at this site. Historical groundwater analytical results have indicated infrequent, randomly
distributed, low concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons, as gasoline and benzene
which appear anomalous with respect to typical monitoring and sampling events. It
remains the opinion of Aegis and Shell Oil Company (Shell) that shallow groundwater
does not contain petroleum hydrocarbons. Attachment 1 is a table of historical
groundwater analytical data.
Aegis, on behalf of Shell, request the SJCPHS/EHD consider no further action necessary
at the subject site. In the event you do not grant this request, we propose the monitoring
and sampling frequency of the site be reduced to annually. Unless Aegis receives
notification from the SJCPHS/EHD, the next monitoring and sampling event would be
scheduled for November 1994.
69-013H L7R ,
