locate the coordinates of areas of concern. The system utilizes signals from up to eight available
satellites to locate points with sub-meter (less than onc meter) accuracy. A summary of the GPS
information is presented in Appendix D.
4.2 Offsite Survey
In addition to the onsite reconnaissance, a representative of Geocon performed a survey of properties
within the site vicinity from public thoroughfares to assess if facilities and/or structures located on
these properties are operated by entities that potentially (as of April 10, 2001) use, store, generate, or
dispose of hazardous materials/wastes. Locations of facilities with map identification numbers (Map
ID Nos.) are depicted on Figure 12. Offsite photographs obtained during the offsite reconnaissance
are presented on Figures 13a through 13c.
The Site is bounded to the north by I Ph Street, to the east by Corral Hollow Road and to the
southwest by Krohn Road. Residential development is present along I Ph Street, Corral Hollow Road
and Krohn Road. Commercial development is present east of Corral Hollow Road including a
Chevron service station, Map ID No. 1. One residence w s noted on Krohn Road, adjacent and south
of the Site. Vehicle parts and miscellaneous debris were noted in the yard. A canal was noted south
of Krohn Road extending south along the east side of C rral Hollow Road and west along the south
side of Krohn Road. Placencia Field, a storm water detention basin, was noted on the south side of
Krohn Road approximately 0.2 km (0.12 mile) south est of the Site. Vacant land was noted
northeast of 11'h Street and Corral Hollow Road. Photographs of the above referenced features are
presented on Figures 13a through 13c.
4.3 Interviews
Geocon performed a taped interview with Mrs. Hattie Poteet (Site Supervisor since January 2001)
and a phone interview with Mr. Allan Shafer (Previous Site Supervisor since 1999) on April 10,
2001. A phone interview was conducted on April 27, 2C01 with Mr. Lino Cruz (Site Lead Worker.
since 1995). Transcripts of the interviews are presented in Appendix E.
Based on the information obtained from Mrs. Poteet, Mr. Shafer and Mr. Cruz, the Site is utilized for
routine maintenance and storage for vehicles and equip ent. None of the interviewees recall any
flooding from the canal south of the Site. Ponds, lagoons and dry wells were not reported by any of
the interviewees. The interviewees reported the presence: of a 760-liter (200-gallon) waste oil AST
north of the material storage bins, a 7,600-liter(2,000-gallon) diesel AST west of the gas house, and
the former fuel USTs. None of the interviewees had a iy knowledge of a waste oil UST or any
previous spills or environmental problems at the Site.
Mr. Shafer indicated that a 7,600-liter (2,000-gallon) diesel UST and a 7,600-liter (2,000-gallon)
gasoline UST were present at the Site and were replaced with one 7,600-liter (2,000-gallon) diesel
Project No.S&225-06-146 - 17- May 25,2001
