i4 Executive Summary
This report presents the results of the soil investigation conducted by Shaw Environmental Inc.
(Shaw) at the Tracy Maintenance Station located a 2005 Krohn Road in Tracy, San Joaquin
County, California (Figure 1). The Tracy Mainter ante Station is operated by the California
Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The objet ive of the investigation was to evaluate the
presence or absence of hazardous concentrations of contaminants in soil in the vicinity of the
leachfield.
i
On February 18, 2003, Shaw observed the drilling of six soil borings (B-1 through B-6) and
excavation of two trenches to evaluate the presence of the leach system. The presence of leach
lines was confirmed by visual inspection with Ms. argaret_L goria of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) duri g excavation in the area of the former
leachfield. The leach lines were encountered ata depth of approximately 1.2 meters (4 feet)
below ground surface (BGS). The leach lines were bserved to be free of sludge accumulations
or related residual products.
Soil samples collected from the borings and trenches were reported to contain oil and grease
' (O&G) and heavy metals. The samples were not reported to contain total petroleum
' hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg); total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd); volatile
organic compounds (VOCs); benzene, toluene, ethyl enzene, or xylenes (BTEX); fuel oxygenate
-- compounds; ethanol or methanol; semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs); chlorinated
hydrocarbons, or organochlorine pesticides.
Two soil samples collected from the trenches excavated near the leach lines were reported to
contain O&G. The reported concentrations are not considered to be high. The O&G detected in
the soil samples may originate from the leach system.
Soil samples collected from the site were reported to contain chromium,'Iead, nickel, and'zinc.
The soil samples were not reported to contain cad um or hexavalent chromium None of the
detected heavy metals were present at concentr tions that exceeded U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, Region 9, industrial soil Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs). It is
unlikely that the soil, should it become a waste, would be considered a hazardous waste.
t
N:4sacDP120031Pl63035444.3ac.doc ES-1
