1.0 Introduction
This report presents the results of the soil investigat on conducted by Shaw Environmental, Inc.
(Shaw), formerly IT Corporation, at the Tracy Maintenance Station located at 2005 Krohn Road
in Tracy, San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1). The Tracy Maintenance Station is operated
by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The investigation was conducted in
March 2003. This investigation was conducted at the request and authorization of Mr. Saiyed
Ali of Caltrans under Task Order No.10-987901-MT.
' 1.1 Background
g d
The Tracy Maintenance Station is owned by Caltrar s and is utilized primarily as an equipment
-` repair facility. The facility is located off Highway 2C5 at 2005 Krohn Road in Tracy, California.
An Initial Site Assessment (ISA) was completed f r the Tracy Maintenance Station (Geocon,
2001). This ISA reported that in 1970, a 5,600-liter (1,500-gallon) concrete septic tank and leach
field located west of the wash rack was installed. T e wash rack discharged into the septic tank
' and leach field until 1999. In July 1999, the septic tank and leach field were, abandoned. A new
mud rinse concrete slab, oil/water separator and clarifier, and extension of the city sewer line
were subsequently installed. The septic tank and leh field piping were'rep-ortedl cleaned ands
Qremoved for disposal. The excavation was reportedly backfilled with rock from the leach field.
The restrooms were disconnected from the septics stem in the early 1990s when remodeling s
activities were performed for the office and equipment building.
Thea applicable Caltrans modification drawings GP-2 gs G 2 and SS-3 are found in Appendix A. These
show the area of work to include the abandonment Df the septic tank. Appendix B includes a
copy of the City of Tracy demolition permit to abandon the concrete tank. Also included is the
inspection record approved by a City of Tracy inspector.
1.2 Objective
Ff The objective of this scope of work was to evalu to the presence or absence of hazardous
concentrations of contaminants in soil in the vicinity of the leachfield. This investigation was
figg" conducted in order to obtain_closufe of the leachfield rom the SJCEHD. 1
i. .
t
N:1sacDPI20031Pgl631835444.3ac.doc 1-1
