31 July 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0468
Page-5 of 11
3:0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based-on the results of the previous investigations and UST removal activities, the extent of
petroleum hydrocarbon impacts to soil and ground water has not been delineated. The investigation
of the extent.of petroleum hydrocarbons at the site will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities; .
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Monitoring well installation and development;
• Ground water sample collection and analysis; and
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in,greater detail below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. In addition, a health and
safety plan will-be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual
for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to
mobilization, the monitoring well location will be clearly marked and an utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to install three ground water monitoring wells at the site as part of site assessment'
activities. Proposed well locations are illustrated in Figure 2.-
Based on soil 'and ground water contamination encountered beneath the former UST area and
analytical data from previous sampling events, AGE proposes ground water monitoring well .
installations in the following locations:
• Approximately 10 feet north of monitoring well MW-1 to assess the vertical extent of
petroleum hydrocarbon impacted.soil and ground water;
Approximately 40 feet north of.MW-1 to assess the lateral extent of dissolved MTBE; and
• Approximately 40 feet northeast of MW-1 to assess the lateral extent of dissolved'MTBE.
Advanced CcoEnvironmental.Inc.
