31 July 2000
AGE-NC Project No.,98-0468 ,
Page 6 of 11
The proposed ground water monitoring well to assess the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon
impacted soil and ground water will be advanced to approximately 35,feet bsg. The remaining two
monitoring wells will be advanced to approximately 20 feet bsg. All three monitoring wells will be
advancedutilizing a truck-mounted, hollow stem drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-
stem augers. Total depths of borings may vary according to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions
encountered during drilling activities. ;
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified/5030;
• BTEX compounds and methyl tert-butyl ether.(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method
8020; and
• Fuel oxygenated compounds including MTBE, TBA,DIPE, ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE)
and tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME)by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
. Laboratory reports for'the soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with-
findings and recommendations.
3.3. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION AND DEVELOPMENT
At least three ground water monitoring wells will be installed at'the site to further assess,petroleum
hydrocarbon impacts to soil and ground water. Proposed monitoring well locations are illustrated
on Figure 2—Well locations are proposed to provide definition of the lateral and vertical extent of
dissolved and adsorbed hydrocarbons. Monitoring of the wells should provide data to determine if
the dissolved plume is migrating or stable.
Following well installation, each well will be developed to maximize water flow and minimize the
amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing. Procedures for well
installation and development are presented in Sections.4.1' and 4.2, respectively.
3.4. GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Ground water monitoring and sampling activities for each newly installed ground water monitoring
. well will be conducted on a quarterly basis unless an alternate schedule or suspension of monitoring-
is approved by the PHS-EHD. Ground water monitoring activities will include recording depth to
Advanced GeoEn%-ironmental,Inc.
