f
On Oct . 9, 1991 , Thorpe Oil personnel also supervised the
moving of a metal shop at the north end of the excavation
and a portion of a fence on the south side of the site .
The Oct . 1.6 , 1991 , excavation finally revealed that all
f samples were below detection levels for all tested
substances . ( #7: Attached test results . ) The size of the
eventual excavation was 35 ' deep, 40 ' long , 15 ' wide -
excluding the 10' shelf used for the equipment .
TreaTek Inc . , is in the process of remediating the
approximately 600 cubic yards of spoil that remain on the
property. It. has been moved to a site east of the house and
barn . A projected completion date is Jan . 31 , 1992 . ( #B:
Attached is TreaTek " s workplan . )
BecauT,e of the extensive excavation done at this s.i.te, this
necessitated the removal of field fences , removal of a large
tree, displacement of a metal shed , damaged pasture area ,
yarn covering destroyed by the large equipment and trucks.
Glean soil was brought in to fill the hole. All cast for
these .items have been included in the application , except
for the cast of repaving my yard and driveway . The cost to
replace at the same level of quality could cost $5,000.
Besides the extreme cost of the cleanup , I am facing other
( difficulties due t© the imposed laws . Finally, in Feb. ,
f 1991 , at the age of 75, I put this 32--acre property on the
market . Early in June, 1991 , I purchased (using funds hoped
for by my sale) a new property. By mid-August , 1991 , I had
a serious, prospective buyer for my ranch. This prospective
deal has been on "hold" for all of these months while I ' ve
f been involved in this cleanup catastrophe. The necessary
additional interest I have paid out is well over $10 ,000 .00.
At 76 years of age, what financial prospects do I' have since
all profits have been eliminated?
Another source of anxiety is whether , or not . I am even
eligible for the cleanup fund . After abiding by the many
rules, regulations , and obstacles put in my way, to think
that I may not be able to recoup any of these losses is
distressing .
When we attended an informational UST meeting in Sept . ,
1.991 , at hlicke Grove , we were assured that the " little guy"
would be the first to be r-eimbursed . Where is that promise
now?
F
I had no choice when the tank was removed on July 17, 1991 ,
but to obtain a permit . I did so - following the law in
effect at that time. Because the legislators have changed
laws, do I now have to be excluded from the UST fund?
Page - 2
