E
JEANNE HOMSEY
E PAGE 2
E r
The results of this exercise will determine whether actual changes made to the system will provide an
added benefit for the cost.
In addition, thick plastic should be placed over the backfilled former tank pit area to aid in prohibiting
air flow through this area into the subsurface. i
When air data (from wells from a remediation system shown to be efficiently designed) indicate the
continued operation of the system would yield no additional benefit, confirmation borings should be
installed. Sufficient soil sample points should be used so that a mass balance calculation can be
performed on residual soil contamination, if any. Should the mass of residual hydrocarbons appear to
be significant, some degree of fate and transport modeling may be required. The groundwater quality
data being collected at this time should support any predictions made from models.
Please provide the above noted submittal to PHS/EHD by September 4, 1995. If you have any
questions or wish to discuss this letter in more detail, please contact Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS, at
I. (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
jj
Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS Diane M.
