Ms. Diane Hinson
June 6, 1995
Page 2
contracted drill rig, excavated an area approximately 20 square feet to 3 feet in depth with the
expectation of locating the missing well. Unfortunately, no evidence of well W-6 was found
in the area where the GPR had identified it would be.
ARCO has in good faith attempted to (1) protect the monitoring wells during construction
activities by identifying the location and marking the wells, and (2) expended significant funds
to relocate and properly abandon well W-6. Proper notification of the need for demolition of
well W-6 was not received by ARCO or Brown and Caldwell from the contractor. Had this
notification been received, the proper destruction of well W-6 could have occurred. At this
time, ARCO believes Boston Chicken should assume the lead with the required well
abandonment.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 4440123.
Sincerely,
BROWN AND CALDWELL
Ron Zurlinden
Technical Coordinator
RZ:ksc
cc: Mr. Kyle Christie, ARCO Products Company
Mr. Joel Coffman, Brown and Caldwell
Ms. Margaret Lagorio, San Joaquin County, Environmental Health Division
0&06195SE.-2,W65,CORRESP,2065-0 LL-3
QMS-PS2200
