 m -
Q
Results of Initial Investigation and Work Plan December 18, 1990
ARCO Service Station No. 2076, Lodi,California AGS 30008-2
We will collect two soil samples within 2 to 4 feet below the base of each former
underground tank. If PID readings are less than 50 ppmv, we will submit the soil samples
to the laboratory for analyses. If PID readings are greater than 50 ppmv,we will observe
additional excavation in the gasoline-tank cavity until PID readings are less than 50 ppmv.
We will then collect soil samples from the additional excavation and submit these soil
samples to the laboratory. We will continue excavating only if laboratory results indicate
soil with greater than 10 ppm of TPHg and greater than 1.0 ppm benzene remains in place.
Excavation will continue until the depth of the excavation reaches the safe operatill;limits
of the equipment with respect to the surrounding structures. The tank removal contractor
will be responsible for evaluating the safe limits of all excavations, sidewall stability, and
X' safe operating limits of the equipment. After the excavation is terminated, appropriate soil
r samples will be collected from the limits of additional excavated area to evaluate if
hydrocarbonous soil was removed by excavation.
Excavated soil will be stockpiled onsite. Composite soil samples will be collected and
® analyzed to evaluate disposal options. The stockpiles will be covered with plastic sheeting
. to restrict vapor emissions and control dust. The disposal of stockpiled soil is ARCO's
responsibility.
f
Eya#im of Proposed_Tank Cavy►
,a
Excavation in the proposed tank cavity will continue until soil containing greater than 10
5 ppm of TPHg and greater than 1.0 ppm benzene is removed; however, excavation will be
F
terminated if the depth of the excavation reaches.the safe operating limits of the equipment
or if further excavation would endanger any existing structures. We estimate that the final
y
4 ---depth of the excavation-will-be-approximately 12-feet-below-grade-but-could-be.deeper T--T
,
s 12.
'SM4fVMs
