PI
r
Results of Initial Investigation and Work Plan December 18, 1990
ARCO Service Station No. 2076, Lodi, California AGS 30008-2
f
o Submit soil samples to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of TPHg and
BTEX. Soil samples collected from under the former leaded gasoline tank
will be submitted for analysis of total and organic lead.
o Prepare a report summarizing tank removal operations and our findings,
conclusions, and recommendations.
F'IEW PROCEDURES
Safety Plan
The Site Safety Plan (Appendix D) describes the basic safety requirements for the drilling
k of soil borings at the work site. The safety plan is applicable to personnel of Applied
GeoSystems and to subcontractors of Applied.GeoSystems.. The Applied GeoSystems
geologist will act as the Site Safety Officer. Personnel at the site will be informed of the .
contents of the site safety plan before work begins. A copy of the plan will be kept at"the
1.
work site and will be available for reference by appropriate parties during the work. E
Ecavation-of Existina Tank Cavity.
A geologist from Applied GeoSystems will be onsite to observe excavation of the soil from
both:tank.cavities. Immediately following the removal of.the five.existing underground-
sforage tanks, the tank cavity.will be excavated to a depth between 2 and 4 feet below the
former tanks to evaluate if hydrocarbons remain in place. During excavation, the geologist
will use a PID to characterize the relative levels of hydrocarbons in the soil arid note any
subjective evidence of hydrocarbons such as obvious product odor and discoloration. Field
instruments such as the PID are useful for indicating relative levels of hydrocarbon vapors,
1
but do not detect the concentration of hydrocarbons present with the same precision as
s laboratory analyses.
G
. . 11
