Kyle Christie
ARCO Products Company
P O Box 612530
San Jose, California 95161
Re Fourth Quarter 1995 Status Report for ARCO Service Station No 2076, Located at
800 East Kettleman Lane, Lodi, California
Dear Mr Christie
At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), EMCON is conducting an
environmental investigation at the subject site (see Figure 1) We have prepared this status
report on the work conducted during the fourth quarter 1995, which included measuring
depths to groundwater, collecting groundwater samples from the wells for subjective and
laboratory analyses, and calculating the groundwater gradient and direction of groundwater
flow beneath the site.
BACKGROUND
Work performed prior to this quarter included drilling 19 soil borings and installing
4 groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4) and 7 vapor extraction wells
(VW-1 through VW-7) (RESNA Industries, Inc., [RESNA], June 26, 1992, and RESNA,
April 15, 1993) The locations of the soil borings, wells, and other site features are
presented on Figure 2 Residual hydrocarbons were analytically identified in soil samples
collected from borings near the tank cavity and dispenser island
RESNA (formerly Applied GeoSystems) performed a vapor extraction test on July 30,
1991 (RESNA, September 12, 1991) In November 1991, RESNA observed the removal
of five gasoline storage tanks and associated product lines, and excavation of a new tank
cavity (RESNA, June 26, 1992) ARCO's contractors installed new tanks in the tank cavity
east of the station building in November 1991
ARCO initiated groundwater monitoring in October 1992. Results have indicated that
dissolved hydrocarbons have not been detected in groundwater, with the exception of total
xylenes, which were detected in well MW-3 at a concentration of 0 7 part per billion (ppb)
during the fourth quarter 1993
• GROUNDWATER MONITORING. FOURTH QUARTER 1995
EMCON was contracted by ARCO to monitor the groundwater in the monitoring wells
previously installed at the site. Field work included measuring depths to groundwater and
SACW WM805\08051440 2DS-96\pas 1
