r <br /> 11 November 2004 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 99-0624 <br />' Page 11 of 13 <br />' volumes of soil vapor or ambient air Is evacuated through the sampling system The vacuum Is then <br /> applied to the chamber,creating a negative pressure on the inside of the sample Tedlar bag The bag <br /> then fills with vapor from the subsurface, allowing the sample to enter directly into the Tedlar bag' <br />' On complete collection of the gas sample, the negative pressure in the chamber is reduced and the <br /> sampling bag sealed Upon collection, each sample will be Iabeled, logged on a chain of custody <br /> form and place into a dry cooler Samples will be delivered to a State-certified laboratory for analysis <br />' of BTEX by EPA Method 8021 <br /> After collection of the sample, soil gas from the polyethylene tubing will be monitored for the <br />' presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization detector(PID)pre-calibrated to isobutylene <br />' 5 3 PILOT SOIL BORING <br /> Five pilot soil borings will be advanced at the site to the specified total depths utilizing a truck- <br /> mounted hollow-stem drill ng with 8-inch or 10-inch diameter hollow-stem augers to install ground <br /> water monitoring wells Soil samples will be collected from each soil boring at five-foot Intervals <br /> Relatively undisturbed soil samples will be collected in each of the borings using a California <br /> modified split-spoon sampler fitted with 2-inch diameter, 6-inch long brass sleeves Upon removal <br /> from the sampler,the sample sleeves will be separated with a knife The exposed ends of the second <br />' sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets,capped and sealed with tape Soils sampled in the borings <br /> will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification <br /> System(USCS) Additionally,soil samples will be field screened for the presence of volatile organic <br /> I compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM), equipped with a photo ionization detector(PID) <br /> Soil sample descriptions and OVM readings will be recorded on a log for each boring <br /> I Following sample collection,each preserved sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring location, <br /> depth, time, date and sampler's initials Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in <br /> a chilled container under ice and transported under chain of custody procedures to a DHS-certified <br /> laboratory <br />' 5 4 WELL COMPLETION AND WELL ELEVATION SURVEY <br /> One 8 25-inch diameter pilot boring will be single-completed as ground water monitoring well <br /> utilizing a 20-foot section of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 polyvinylchloride (PVC) 0 020-inch <br /> slotted well screen and blank well casing extended to surface grade Three 8 25-inch diameter pilot <br /> bonngs will be single-completed as ground water monitoring well utilizing a 10-foot section of <br /> I2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC 0 020-inch slotted well screen and blank well casing extended to <br /> + surface grade The 10-inch diameter pilot boring will be single-completed as a ground water <br /> IAdvanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc i <br /> I <br />
