SECTION II.
ADDITIONAL SCOPE OF WORK & LIMITATIONS
A. PURPOSE
The purpose of this expanded scope of the limited Phase II investigation was to further
evaluate the subsurface in limited areas (e.g., around the septic system) at the subject property
which have been impacted by chemical compounds associated with the reported former
activities as identified in prior investigations. Since this is an expanded assessment, where the
scope of work is targeted to the areas found to be impacted by prior activities at the site
(including the septic system, former locations of USTs, and concrete patches whose
associations to previous activities are unknown) soil and groundwater sampling and analysis
were proposed. Based on information from PEI (2012), the depth to groundwater was
assumed to be approximately 26 feet bgs.
This follow-on screening investigation was intended to further define the extent of potentially
impacted soil and groundwater at accessible locations at the subject property. This report is
not intended to satisfy regulatory agencies, or to be used for official "closure" purposes.
Significant additional scope requirements, cost, and time would be necessary to achieve such
a purpose.
B. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on information available to PEI, the following scope of work was provided to the Client
and San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department on August 16, 2012:
1) Site Safety Activities - Preparation of Health and Safety Plan and Notification of
Underground Service Alert (USA).
2) Workplan preparation and submittal/interface with agency Prepare a workplan for
submittal to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD)
for collection of soil vapor, soil and groundwater samples. It is possible the
SJCEHD may have additional or different requirements for the proposed work to
be performed as outlined in this proposal. If so, PEI will communicate these
additional requirements to the Client and amend the proposal as necessary. This
may involve additional costs, depending upon the requirements, if any. It is likely
the SJCEHD will require reporting of the results of the investigation.
3) Screening soil sampling survey Seven direct push soil borings will be drilled to
depths of up to 40 feet bgs in areas near the septic system, adjacent to the former
locations of USTs, and adjacent to concrete patches inside the warehouse (this
assumes 2 field days). Samples will be obtained every five feet, beginning at five
feet bgs. Twenty-eight soil samples (four per soil boring) will be analyzed for
VOCs via EPA Method 8260B and for total petroleum hydrocarbons by carbon-
Addendum to Limited Phase II Environmental Site Assessment Report Pinnacle Environmental,Inc.
248 Industrial Avenue,Stockton,CA 95206 Page 3
