MONITORING PROCEDURES FOR DOUBLE WALL PIPING SYSTEMS
All double wall piping is sloped downward to a sump that is attached to underground storage tanks. In the event of a leak or
pressure loss a manual in-line leak detector is activated and will reduce product flow to 2 gallons per minute. The leaking product
will be contained within the doubled wall piping and will flow downward and terminate into a sump. The sump area is monitored
with a liquid sensing probe that will activate a visual and audible alarm system.
If the system goes into alarm, the station operator will check the alarm system panel and perform a test procedure to verify that
the system is not malfunctioning. If the system confirms a leak the operator is to immediately shut down the product and contact
the designated Shell representative and advise him/her of the situation so that they can follow the instructions outlined in the
"SHELL LEAK RESPONSE PLAN", which is part of this HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PLAN.
The system used at this facility is: RONAN X76LVC
The monitoring will be preformed on site by the authorized personnel below.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
The monitoring equipment shall be inspected and certified annually. Maintenance will be performed annually or as
needed. All work performed to the monitoring system will be in accordance to the manufacturers recommendations.
RESPONSE PLAN
If a failure occurred in the piping systems annular space, the dealer will contact Service Station Services at 800-887-8009.
Service Station Systems will contact Shell Maintenance to determine the proper actions, which may include performing
an integrity test or calling a contractor to pump the product out of the sumps. The local agency will be properly notified
of the status of the piping. All follow up will be completed within the month the problem occurred.
TRAINING
Tank operators are trained on the proper operations of the monitoring equipment per the manufacturer's instructions.
RESPONSIBLE SHELL PERSONNEL The following personnel are responsible for performing monitoring or maintaining the
equipment.
NAME TITLE PHONE
Randy Carroll Manager Day 209-957-5398
24hr 209-957-6612
Jeff Granberry Project Engineer Work 510-675-6145
Home 510-673-0753
Jeff Byram District Engineer Work 510-675-6146
Home 510-674-9413
Dan T.
