19 October 2011
AGE-NC Project No. 11-1999
Page 2 of 4
to depths of 20 feet bsg. Boring locations may be modified in the field depending on site
conditions. Approximate boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Borings will be advanced using a GeoProbe direct-push drill rig. Soil samples will be
collected from each boring at five-foot intervals. According to recent information available
on the State of California Geotracker website, ground water at the site likely occurs
between 10 feet and 15 feet bsg. Grab ground water samples will be collected from a
minimum of three soil borings. Additional grab ground water samples may be collected if
ground water is encountered during advancement of the remaining borings.
Soil and grab ground water samples will be submitted to a California Department of Public
Health (CDPH)-Certified laboratory and selected samples will be analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-all) in accordance with EPA-method 8015-
modified;
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in accordance with EPA-method 826013;
• LUFT metals: Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu, and Pb in accordance with EPA Methods 6010 and
200.7.
Upon completion of the field work and receipt of laboratory analysis, a brief report will be
prepared. The report will be reviewed and signed by a California Professional Geologist.
PROBE BORING ADVANCEMENT
Probe borings will be advanced using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing
unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings
using a hydraulic hammer to drive soil and ground water sampling tools to specified
depths.
SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Soil samples will be collected at discreet five-foot intervals using a 1.25-inch Geoprobe soil
sampling assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. Upon sample retrieval, the
ends of the second sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with
tape.
Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice
and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory.
