Di Salvo Tmdcing-Repxt
0M)bW27.1995 T
PW.y
WELL CONSTRUCTION
1
The monitor well was drilled using 8-inch O.D.,hollow-stern, continuous-flight augers and '
constructed with 2-inch I.D., Schedule 40, flush-threaded 0.020 machine-slotted PVC screen. The
PVC screen extended from a depth of approximately 18.5 feet to 10.5 feet below ground surface
(bgs). Blank PVC casing was installed above the well sc reen up-to the ground surface. A sand pack
of 2112 Lonestar sand was placed in the annular space from the total depth to approximately 10 feet
bgs. Bentonite pellets were placed from approximately 0 feet to 7.5 feet. A surface seal of neat
cement containing five percent bentonite by weight was placed from the top of the bentonite seal to the
ground surface. A water-tight traffic box was installed at the ground surface. A diagram of the final
construction of MW 1 is attached.
s
WORK SCOPE
The well will be destroyed by Spectrum Explorat on(C57 License#512268)under the
supervision of a Condor geologist. Prior to decommissi ning, the total depth of well will be measured
and compared to the construction depth to check for do -hole obstructions. The monitor well travel
box will be removed from the ground surface and the PVC casing will be pulled out of the ground.
The monitor well will then be re-drilled with 8-inch O.D., hollow-stem, continuous-flight augers to a
total depth of approximately 18.5 feet bgs. A cement slurry containing five percent by weight
bentonite will then be pumped into MW1 using a tremie iose. The augers will remain in the bore hole,
as necessary, to insure the bore hole remains open during backfilling with the cement slurry. The
estimated volume of grout required to fill MW 1 is equal o:
V—n-eH
where r= radius of bore hole(0.33 ft)
H = height of bore hole (18.5 ft).
The estimated volume of grout to destroy MW 1 s approximately 6.3 feet3 (48-gallons). The
actual volume of grout placed in the well will be recorded and compared to the estimated volume. If
L CONDOR
r —
