Di Salvo-Lathrop MWI Report
June^8, 3995
Paue-5-
water discharged from the wells was placed in a 55-gallon drum and left on site to await disposal pending
results of laboratory analyses.
5.0 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
On June 8, 1995, Condor personnel were on site to make field observations and to collect groundwater
samples from the three monitor wells at the site. All field equipment was decontaminated in the field as
described in Section 3.1 prior to use. All field instruments were calibrated to the manufacturer's
recommended standards.
— Initially, the static water level in each well was measured to the nearest 0.01-foot with a battery-
operated- flat-tape, water-level meter. Prior to purging each well, a new, disposable bailer was lowered into
the well to check for free product, petroleum odors and/or sheen. Free product, petroleum odors and/or sheen
were not observed in MW 1 during the June, 1995, groundwater sampling. The well was purged using a
disposable polyethylene bailer until at least three well-casing volumes of water had been removed and until the
electrical conductivity, pH, and temperature of the water stabilized. Prior to sampling, the water was allowed
'– to recover to at least 80% of the pre-purge water level. The purge water was discharged to a 55-gallon drum
and left on site to await disposal- The groundwater monitoring data sheet completed during development of
MW1 is included in Appendix C.
A groundwater sample was collected with the bailer used for purging. The groundwater sample was
transferred to 40-m1- glass VOA vials fitted with Teflon-lined caps. Each vial was inverted and tapped to
., assure that no air bubbles were present. The samples were labeled and placed in a cooler chilled with Blue
Ice and delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc., in Modesto,
California, within 24 hours of sample collection. The Groundwater Monitoring Data Sheet is included in
Appendix C. The results of groundwater analyses are discussed in Section 7.0.
6.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil sample collected during installation of MW 1 at the Di Salvo - Lathrop site was analyzed for
benzene. toluene, ethel benzene and total xylene (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020 and for total extractable
petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as kerosene, diesel and motor oil (TEPH) by Method 3550/LUFT. The
Cr
groundwater sample collected from the site was analyzed for BTEX by EPA Method 602 and for TEPH by
Method 3510/LUFT. Laboratory report sheets indicating analytical methods used, detection limits, and results
i of analyses are presented in Appendix C.
 CONDOR
