F 0 C-1
Subsurface Investigation and Page 6
" Remedial Excavation of Hydrocarbon-affected Soil
Proposed Cintra Park Phase II Development, Tract 2705, Tracy, California
F. August S, 1997 _ CTE Job No. 20-0445
-- associated with the encountered septic disposal system lines. Presented on Figures 4 and 5 is the
encountered soil stratigraphy.
Where readily observed it appeared that an inverted cone of hydrocarbon-affected had formed
beneath the tank cavity area. Hydrocarbon-affected soil also appeared to have spread laterally via
# # the septic system trench(which traversed the excavation area)and along the capillary frin a soil zone
p g
above the groundwater table. Based on visual observations where lateral spreading had occurred via
1 .
the capillary fringe the zone of affected soil was approximately one to two feet thick.
 1
r
r .4 Soil Sample Collection and Analysis
r-- Soil samples were collected to: to observe the subsurface stratigraphy; evaluate the horizontal and
vertical extent of soil contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons; and, to confirm that hydrocarbon
1"
affected soil was successfully excavated. Soil sample locations are shown on Figures 3 through 5.
Soil sample procedures are provided in Appendix D.
f f
Selected soil samples were analyzed in the field usinga combustible as indicator
g (CGI). Soil samples
for CGI analysis were numbered sequentially as CGI#1 through CGIV. Presented on Figures 3
through 5 are the results of the CGI analyses. Selected soil samples were also submitted to the State
of California-certified Chroma Laboratory and analyzed for TPH-G and-D, BTEX, and methyl tert
butyl ether (MTBE). Soil samples for laboratory an 1 sis were numbered sequentially as SS#
1
F APROJECT5120-04451ENRP02.WPD
i
Fi
