19 March 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0471
Page 4 of 12
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
To mitigate the residual hydrocarbon source at the site, the removal of the petroleum hydrocarbon-
impacted soil will be required. Excavation of the surface of the soil to the saturated zone (five to six
feet bsg in depth) will remove the previously delineated impacted soil.
To confirm and monitor the lateral extent of the dissolved hydrocarbons six ground water monitoring
wells shall be installed at the former gasoline AST location and surround the former AST location.
The approximate excavation limits and wells locations are depicted on Figure 2.
The soil remediation plan and ground water monitoring plan will include the following tasks:
• Pre-field work activities;
• Soil excavation and backfilling with confirmation soil sample collection and analysis;
• Soil stockpile sample collection and analysis with soil disposal;
• Monitoring well installation and development;
• Ground water monitoring and sample collection and analysis (on a quarterly basis); and
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to excavations and drilling,the areas of excavation/drilling will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL EXCAVATION
The first phase of the work includes the excavation of hydrocarbon-impacted soil from the area of
the decommissioned gasoline-AST system.
Based upon laboratory results of soil samples collected during the preliminary soil assessment
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
