Box 58
Holt, CA 5234
REVIEW OF WORK PLAN ADDENDUM, VOLPI FARMS, HOLT, SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY
We have reviewed the 10 September 2001 Work Plan Addendum (WPA) and the
13 September 2001 Groundwater Monitoring Report— Third Quarter 2001 (GMR) submitted by
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. on behalf of Volpi Farms for its operations along State
Highway 4 near Holt in San Joaquin County. The WPA contains provisions to install a single
monitoring well downgradient from MW-1. The GMR contains results for samples collected on
20 August 2001, which show that MW-1 contains the highest pollutant concentrations. We have
the following comment on these documents.
Our 7 May 2001 letter states "Volpi needs to submit a ... work plan to define the extent of
groundwater contamination downgradient from MW-1." The six monitoring wells now located
at this site define the lateral extent of pollution upgradient (to the north) of the source area, but
not downgradient (to the south). The WPA proposes to install a single downgradient monitoring
well about 20 feet south of MW-1, according to Figure 3 in the GMR. Although this may not
define the southern extent of the plume, Volpi may proceed with the installation of MW-7 with
the understanding that additional wells might still be needed.
By 30 January 2001, please submit a well installation report and if necessary, recommendations
including a time schedule to further define the groundwater pollution at this site.
If you have any questions, you may contact me at (916) 255-3082.
M X ERRA
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
a 2
cc: Mr. Mike ma, San Joaquin County Health, Stockton
Ms. Jeanne Zolezzi, Herum, Crabtree, Dyer, Zolezzi &Terpstra, Stockton
Mr. William Little, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc., Stockton
California Environmental Protection Agency
Ca Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
