22 September 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0753
Page 4of5
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Excluding sample B2-H2O, TPH-g and TPH-mo were detected in the ground water samples at
concentrations as high as 50,000 µg/1 and 1,500 gg/l,respectively(both in sample B4-1120), TPH-d
was detected in the ground water samples collected from borings B-1 through B-6 at concentrations
as high as 15,000 µg/l(sample B4-H20).
Benzene was only detected in samples B3-H20 and B4-H20 at concentrations of 1.9 µg/1 and 420
µg/l,respectively. The remaining BTE&X compounds ranged from below detectable limits in sample
132-H20 to 9,900 µg/1 of xylenes in sample B4-H2O. MTBE was not detected above laboratory
reporting limits in the ground water sample analysis.
Analytical results of groundwater samples are summarized in Table 2. The laboratory report(MCAT
Lab I.D. number 46458 through 46463) and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix A.
4.0. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on findings of this investigation, AGE concludes:
• Soil is impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons with the exception of the southern most portion
of the site. The highest concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil resides in the
central western portion of the site, in the area of boring B-4. Petroleum
hydrocarbon-impacted soil was not encountered in the saturated zone at a depth of 15 feet
bsg.
• Ground water is impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons with the exception of the southeast
portion of the site. The highest concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground
water resides in the central western portion of the site, in the area of boring B-4.
• The lateral extent of adsorbed petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil has not been defined to
the north, east, and west of the site.
' • The lateral and vertical extent of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water
has not been defined.
Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination may be the result of an unauthorized release associated with
the removal of four USTs in 1994 on the adjacent site at 575 West Grantline Road. There are
currently four ground water monitoring wells located at 575 West Grantline Road. Monitoring and
sampling of the well network has been ongoing since May 1995 to the present.
