SOIL INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN <br /> Grant Line Road , Tracy , California <br /> Delta Project No . 4049 - 052 <br /> Page 3 <br /> water be encountered at depths less than 20 feet the soil boring will be advanced no further and <br /> will be sealed to surface with a cement- bentonite slurry . The proposed locations of soil borings to <br /> be advanced at the site are illustrated in Figure 2 . <br /> All drilling and sampling at the site will be conducted in accordance with methods and protocols <br /> outlined in Appendix A , Section 1 . 0 . Section 2 . 0 of Appendix A contains quality assurance <br /> procedures to be observed during sample collection and analysis . Section 3 . 0 of Appendix A contains <br /> health and safety procedures and site emergency contact information . <br /> 3 . 2 Soil Sample Collection , Classification , and Screening <br /> Soil samples will be collected above the water table at a minimum vertical spacing of 5 feet using <br /> methods and procedures outlined in Appendix A , Section I . I . A soil sample will also be collected <br /> at the soil - water table interface . <br /> As samples are retrieved from each soil boring , they will be visually and manually examined by a <br /> Delta geologist or engineer and classified according to methods outlined in Appendix A , Section 1 . 2 . <br /> A portion of each soil sample will be placed in a glass jar and the head space in the jar will be <br /> screened with a PID as described in Section 1 . 3 of Appendix A . <br /> Soil samples which yield a PID reading of 50 ppm or more will be submitted for laboratory analysis . <br /> If samples from all the soil borings yield a PID reading of less than 50 ppm , selected samples may <br /> be submitted to the laboratory to confirm PID results . <br /> Surface soil samples will also be collected for compositing by the laboratory . The composite samples <br /> will be analyzed for pesticides . <br /> 3 . 3 Soil Chemical Analysis <br /> Soil samples sent to the laboratory on the basis of PID screening will be analyzed by U . S . <br /> Environmental Protection Agency (EPA ) method 8260 for BTEX , and total petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> (TPH ) . The composite sample will be analyzed for pesticides by EPA method 8270 . <br /> 4 . 0 SCHEDULE <br /> Delta will proceed with the work outlined in this plan as soon as approval is obtained . A drilling <br /> crew will be mobilized to drill the proposed soil borings within 1 week of approval of this plan . <br /> Laboratory analysis of soil samples generally requires 3 weeks .
