Report of Findings—Phase 11 Soil ana vroundwater Assessment Page 5
Teixeira-Souza Dairy February 1,2007
WKA No.6504.45
elevations based on depth-to-groundwater level measurements. Calculations were then
conducted to estimate the groundwater flow direction and gradient across the site.
RESULTS
Observations of the lithologic conditions from the soil borings indicate that shallow soil
conditions beneath the site consist of silty clay with interbedded fine sand to at least 24 feet bgs,
which was the deepest interval soil samples were collected. Screening results from the landfill
gas analyzer did not identify considerable readings to indicate a significant presence of methane
in the soil samples collected from the 20 borings locations. First groundwater was encountered
at depths ranging from approximately 16 to 20 feet bgs in the 20 borings.
Soil and groundwater sampling analytical results are provided in Tables 1 and 2, respectfully.
Notable analytical results are summarized below:
Soil
• Ammonia (as nitrogen) was detected in two of the 10 soil samples at concentrations of
27 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and 28 mg/kg
• Nitrate (as nitrogen) was detected in three of the 10 soil samples at concentrations
ranging from 9.7 mg/kg to 25 mg/kg
• Nitrate/Nitrite (as nitrogen) was detected in three of the 10 soil samples at concentration
ranging from 10 mg/kg to 25 mg/kg
• Total nitrogen detected in each of the 10 soil samples ranged in concentration from
69 mg/kg to 680 mg/kg
• Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) was detected in each of the 10 soil samples ranging from
69 mg/kg to 650 mg/kg
Currently, there are no regulatory guidelines established to allow for the comparison of detected
nitrogen related compound concentrations in soil against allowable limits for the protection of
groundwater quality.
