Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor 'z
Stockton, California 95202-2708 I
Subject: Request for Drilling Permit
C
I
14 Acre Parcel
Harlan and D'Arcy Parkway
Lathrop, California
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
This letter requests a drilling permit to drill and sample at 15 boring locations on one site
that covers three parcels, APN 198-19-28, '198-19-11, and 198-19-29. We present herein a work
plan for the drilling, sampling and testing operations. The boring locations are shown on the
attached site plan. Fugro West Inc. will perform a geotechnical investigation to provide
foundation recommendations for three proposed structures that include an In-N-Out Burger
Restaurant, a warehouse, and a maintenance facility. We have attached a site plan with the
approximate locations of the borings. The site consists of 14 acres and is located near the
intersection of Harlan Road and D'Arcy Parkway. In conducting this investigation, Fugro will also
prepare a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment. At this time, Fugro understands that the site
is vacant and believes that it has only served agricultural purposes or remained vacant. This
work plan describes the scope of the planned investigation, the procedures for borehole sealing
and disposal of soil and groundwater, and the scope of laboratory testing, and presents a site
plan with the boring locations and a safety plan.
Scope of Investigation
A field exploratory program will be conducted under the direction of our geotechnical engineer who
will supervise the drilling and logging of fifteen (15) exploratory borings. The borings will be
conducted using a conventional light truck mounted drill rig. The drill rig will turn hollow or solid
augurs and collect soil samples with a 2.5 inch California Modified sampler or the 11/4 inch split
spoon sampler. We anticipate that 10 of the borings will be conducted in building footprint areas
(see the Site Plan Borings B-1 through B-10), and will extend to depths of 15 to 20 feet. Because
we may encounter cemented deposits, our drilling rig may not be able to complete the borings to
the maximum depth of 20 feet. Five of the borings will be conducted in pavement areas and will
extend to depths of about 5 feet. Samples will be collected from the borings at approximately 5-
foot intervals, or less. Bulk samples of the near surface soils will also be collected. The samples will
be returned to our laboratory for further examination and testing. During the field operations, our
field engineer will log the soils and obtain samples for visual examination and geotechnical tests.
We will also screen soil samples in the field using an organic vapor meter(OVM), a device that
G:\PROPOSED WORK\2003\03.537MORK_PLAN.DOC A member of the Fugro group of companies with offices throughout the world.
