expanded by adding 10,000 square feet on the western side of the facility. The surrounding area is
comprised of properties that have been used for industrial/commercial purposes since the 1990's.
1.6 Other Site Information—Environmental and Physical Characteristics
The following subsections present information from referenced reports and other sources (data
bases, government publications and maps, etc.)reviewed by GRI.
1.6.1 Site Geology/Soil Types
The site is located within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province in the central part of California.
The Great Valley is an alluvial plain about 50 miles wide and 400 miles long. The Great Valley is a
synclinal trough with sediment deposits occurring since the Jurassic period (160 million years ago).
Sediment thickness is up to 25,000 feet thick. The site lies within the San Joaquin Valley and the
geologic classification of surface sediments at and near the site is Qb. Qb denotes recent basin
deposits in the Great Valley which are Quaternary in age and comprised of sediments deposited
during flood stages of major streams in the areas between natural stream levees and alluvial fans.
Site soils were reported as silty to sandy clays (ENVIRON, July 2010). The surface soil at the site is
classified by the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Survey as Stockton Clay Loam adobe.
1.6.2 Site Topography
The site is at an elevation of 24 to 26 feet according to information obtained from Google Earth. The
topographic map containing the Site is the United States Geological Survey Topographic Map of
Stockton West, California 7.5-minute quadrangle. The area is generally flat.
1.6.3 Site Hydrology
Groundwater was encountered at depths of 35 to 50 feet below grade during sampling completed by
ENVIRON in July 2010. A review of nearby sites in the GeoTracker and EnviroStor databases
indicates that groundwater flow is northeasterly. No surface water is located on the site. The nearest
surface water to the site appears to be an unnamed creek located approximately 266 feet north of the
site at the closest point.
The site is located within the San Joaquin River Hydrologic Region (SJRHR), which includes all of
San Joaquin County. The SJRHR is divided into nine sub basins. The site is located in the Eastern
San Joaquin Sub-basin. Water bearing formations of significance in the Eastern San Joaquin
Subbasin consist of the Alluvium and Modesto/Riverbank Formations, Flood Basin Deposits,
Laguna Formation, and Mehrten Formation (California Groundwater Bulletin 118). The ENVIRON
Phase I ESA indicated that no drinking water wells were identified within a 0.5-mile radius of the
site.
1.6.4 Site Climate
The climate in the site vicinity is characterized by warm, dry summers and damp winters. The daily
(24-hour) average temperature in the area is 62 degrees Fahrenheit(°F). The average rainfall is 17.85
inches and occurs mainly from November through March (www.usclimatedata.com).
1163-3 2014 0617 PEAWP 3 5 GRI
