3.6.2 Equipment Maintenance and Decontamination
Field equipment will be maintained per each manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.
Any field equipment that comes into contact with sample media will be decontaminated per the
methods described in Section 3.3.
3.6.3 Field Monitoring Measurements
Each soil sample interval is monitored in the field for possible total volatiles by use of a portable
hydrocarbon field analyzer.A portion of the sample interval adjacent to the retained sample is placed
in a sealable air-tight plastic bag. After the bag has been sealed for a minimum of five minutes, the
sample is measured and the meter readings recorded. The field analyzer is a battery-powered
instrument which detects and indicates concentrations of total volatiles(gas or vapor) in the air in the
parts per million (ppm) range. Samples are drawn continuously by means of a built-in pump and
analyzed. The instrument will respond to numerous hydrocarbons including petroleum products.
Results of the analysis are reported in ppm and are used only as a qualitative field measure of
potential soil contamination. The photo ionization meter (PID) that will be used is a RAI systems
MiniRAI Plus Professional PID with a 10.6eV lamp.
Readings will also be obtained in the breathing zone during sampling and recorded. The HASP
details air monitoring.
4.0 RECORD KEEPING
4.1 Chain of Custody Form
Samples will be collected, transported, and received under the chain-of-custody protocols consistent
with procedures established by the EPA for litigation-related materials. Each transfer of possession
will be logged on the chain-of-custody form. Signature of relinquisher and recipient will be required.
A copy of the chain-of-custody form will be produced and filed by GRI whenever samples will be
sent to the laboratory. Upon receipt at the laboratory, the laboratory custody procedure will provide
the mechanism through which the disposition and custody of the samples will be accurately
documented during each phase of the analytical process. A sample receipt checklist will be used to
document the condition of samples on arrival at the laboratory.
4.2 Field Notes,Photograph Log
Field notes will be recorded in a log book. The log book will also contain a record of photographs
taken during field activities.
5.0 PROJECT SCHEDULE
The following table provides a feasible schedule for performing the tasks identified in this workplan.
Completion dates(days following an activity or actual date)for each task are identified.
1163-3 2014 0617 PEAWP 3 12 GPJ
