Equipment Blank
An equipment rinsate blank will be collected during the sampling activities by running laboratory-
grade deionized water or distilled water through or over the cleaned sampling equipment. The
collected water will be placed in appropriate containers and properly preserved. The analysis of the
equipment blank will provide an indication of contamination from field procedures.
Field Duplicates(soil)
Field duplicates will be collected at a frequency of one duplicate every 20 primary soil samples.
These samples will evaluate analytical precision (reproducibility). The field duplicates will be
provided with a sample number that differs from the primary sample number to prevent the
laboratory from recognizing the sample as a duplicate. The analysis will be the same as the primary
sample.
Trip Blank
A trip blank prepared by the laboratory will accompany samples from the time collected until
delivered to the laboratory. The results will determine if the samples were contaminated during
transport from the field to the laboratory.
3.5.6 Sample Custody
Samples will be collected, transported, and received under the chain-of-custody protocols consistent
with procedures established by the EPA for litigation-related materials. Each transfer of possession
will be logged on the chain-of-custody form. Signature of relinquisher and recipient will be required.
A copy of the chain-of-custody form will be produced and filed by GRI whenever samples will be
sent to the laboratory. Upon receipt at the laboratory, the laboratory custody procedure will provide
the mechanism through which the disposition and custody of the samples will be accurately
documented during each phase of the analytical process. A sample receipt checklist will be used to
document the condition of samples on arrival at the laboratory.
3.5.7 Background Samples
Four background samples will be collected and analyzed for metals. The results will be compared to
the primary site samples (including previous samples) to determine if the concentrations on-site are
representative of background concentrations or indicate impact from site activities. The background
samples will be analyzed for Title 22 Metals.
3.6 Field Measurements
3.6.1 Equipment Calibration and Quality Control
Field measuring equipment will be calibrated per the specifications of the manufacturer and at least
once prior to the planned activities. GRI will maintain a calibration log and have it available for
viewing upon request.
1163-3 2014 0617 PEAWP 3 11 GRI
