Environmental Site Assessment Report 2
The Southland Corporation, Southwest Corner of Grant Line Road and Joe Pombo Parkway,Tracy,California August 28, 1997
boring was analyzed for polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PNAs), Priority Pollutant Metals, and
pesticides by EPA methods 8270, 6010/7000, and 8080, respectively. Field notes are included in Appendix
C.
The soil from the cores was screened for hydrocarbon vapors using a photoionization detector(PID). Soil
was logged using the Unified Soil Classification System by a Fluor Daniel GTI field geologist working under
the supervision of a California registered geologist(Appendix D). Using the direct push technology, no soil
cuttings were generated during the investigation.
2.3 Groundwater Sampling
Following completion of the soil borings, groundwater samples were collected from each of the four
borings. The groundwater samples were collected from the open borehole using a stainless steel bailer,
then transferred to 40-milliliter glass vials, which were treated with hydrochloric acid to preserve the
samples. The samples were sealed using Teflon®-septum caps, labeled, placed on ice in an insulated
container, and transported under chain-of-custody manifest to WEST for analysis of BTEX, MTBE, and
TPH-G using EPA methods 8020/modified 8015. The groundwater sample collected from soil boring GP-4
was additionally analyzed for PNAs, Priority Pollutant Metals, and pesticides by EPA methods 8270,
6010!7000, and 8080, respectively.
3.0 RESULTS OF SOIL ASSESSMENT
3.1 Site Geology
The site is located on the southwest corner of Grant Line Road and Joe Pombo Parkway intersection in
Tracy, California, on the western edge of the San Joaquin valley east of the Altamont Pass. In the vicinity
of the site, topography slopes gently north. Static groundwater level in the borings following groundwater
sample collection ranged from 9.6 feet to 11.1 feet BGS.
Sediments encountered during drilling at the site generally consisted of silty clay to clayey silt to
approximately 18 feet in each boring, with a thin bed of silty sand encountered approximately 9 feet BGS,
followed by clayey silt to silty clay to 20 feet BGS (Appendix C).
3.2 Results of Soil Sample Analyses
Table 1 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for soil samples collected from the four geoprobe
points on August 5, 1997. No benzene, MTBE, or TPH-G concentrations were detected in any of the 16
analyzed soil samples. No polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon or pesticide analytes were detected in the
one sample analyzed from each of the borings. Low concentration levels of antimony, arsenic, beryllium,
chromium, copper, nickel, silver, thallium, and zinc were detected in the four samples analyzed for Priority
0544ea r.rpt(Sth I-)
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
