Ms. Luci, Thatei - :i 9 Nf rcl, 2006
b) Onsite storm water runoff accumulating around MWA on the asphalt surface (the pavement slopes
towards the street) may be recharging the shallow aquifer through MW-1 and/or MW-4, or
c) A leaking domestic water line/overly abundant landscape irrigation from the house to the west may
be contributing to the water table mounding.
All of the above conditions (or others not mentioned) may allow water to reach and mowed up the water
table, providing atypical water level results for MW-1 and MW-4. Rather than requiring that you contact
AGE to destroy/replace MW-1 or MW-4, or to investigate the source of the discrepancies immediately,
1 recommend that AGE first perform an expedited pilot study/interim remediation,to include an extended
pumping test of MW-1, coupled with soil vapor extraction in the tank pit area,to mitigate the
contamination in the source area and define the residual soil contamination as previously reported down to
40 feet depth in the tank pit in 1985 (TPHg, 1.93 milligrams per kilogram, or mg/kg; benzene, 0.296
mg/kg; ethylbenzene, 6.9 mg/kg; and xylenes, 27 mg/kg).
The anticipated work is necessary and appropriate for the investigation and remediation of petroleum
hydrocarbons released from the former USTs on your property. Please submit a Workplan to include
these elements or an alternative technology expedited workplan by 14 April 2005 and a Report of the
work including the mass of petroleum hydrocarbon constituents removed by 18 August 2006. Provide at
least 3 working days notice to San Joaquin County staff and myself prior to commencement of fieldwork.
You may call me at(916) 464-4615 or email me at jbarton@waterboards.ca.gov if you have questions or
comments. - '
P
James L. Barton, P.G.
Engineering Geologist
Enclosure
cc: Mr. Harlin Knoll, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Services, Stockton
Mr. John Chung, KEO #6 LTD PTP, P.O. Box 7249,Newport Beach, CA 92658
Mr. Robert Marty, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Stockton
