Pete Warren
May 23, 2000
Page 2
All barrels of waste oils at the dismantling tables shall be contained in secondary containment
and must be labeled as "waste oils." CFC, §7901.8
9. Remove the 30 -gallon containers of LPG from the top rack (directly under the sprinkler pipe to the
ground floor). Store these containers outside with the other compressed gas containers. Do not
store them in racks. Secure the cylinders with chains to a fixed noncombustible wall or rack.
CFC, §8001
10. Parts are now dipped into a 400 -gallon tank constructed by QB Rebuilders that contains a rust
inhibitor and acetone mixture (3 gallons of inhibitor to 1 gallon of acetone). This process is a
serious fire safety hazard due to the ignition sources in the areas, lack of proper ventilation, and
because the tank is not listed by Underwriters Laboratories or Factory Mutual.
For approval by the Stockton Fire Department, this process must be conducted in a room
s,Decifical!y designed for processing handling and storage of fl?mmable !;,T -lids. The room! must
meet Class 1 Division 1 electrical requirements found in the 1998 California Electrical Code, and
must be submitted to the Building and Fire Prevention Divisions for approval prior to construction.
For your consideration, the size of the room could be enlarged to accommodate the outside
storage of flammable liquids. CFC, §7903
11. The following fire permits are required:
• Hazardous Materials storage and handling $115
• Hot Works $70
• Compresses Gasses $115
Your company should contact an engineer to schedule a meeting with the Building and Fire Divisions to
review the construction of the flammable liquids storage room. A tentative date for the completion of Item
10 must be given to the Fire Prevention Division. A reinspection for all other violations is scheduled for
Friday, June 16, 2000. All violations, with the exception of Item 10, must be completed by this date.
Should you have questions, please contact me at (209) 937-8677.
DOUGLAS C.
