hardness of the water in the rinse tanks are tested daily with a HM COM 100 digital meter. When
the water hardness in the rinse tanks reaches a concentration of 500 mg/l, the rinse waters are then
pumped into the treatment tank (each rinse tank is pumped into the treatment tank approximately
twice per month). The pH is tested prior to pumping water from any of the rinse tanks into the
treatment tank, if the pH in any of the rinse tanks is 2, or less, the rinse water will not be pumped
into the treatment tank, but would be pumped directly into drums or totes and managed as a
corrosive characteristic hazardous waste.
The process tanks are typically never emptied, but rather replenished with de-ionized water and
iron phosphate (CC 50L). If for any reason the process tanks would have to be emptied, the tanks
would be tested for pH. If the pH of the process tanks is greater than 2, the wastewater would then
be pumped to the treatment tank in the salve manner as the rinse tanks. If the pH of the wastewater
in the process tanks is 2, or less, it would then be pumped directly into deans or totes and managed
as a corrosive characteristic hazardous waste.
1.3 Chem Line
The chem line consists of 16 tanks and a sump [Attachment E — Chem Line Diagram]. Tanks
A,41, #3, #5, #12, and#14 on the chem line are process tanks and tanks B, #2, #4, #6, #8,49, 911
and 413 are rinse tanks, currently tank #7 is empty and not in use. Tank A contains de-ionized
water and New Dimension Supreme, tank#1 contains de-ionized water and Iridite ZDC Activator,
tank#3 contains de-ionized water and Alumatte Etch, tank 45 contains de-ionized water and DeOx
710 Non-Chromated Deoxidizer, tank #12 contains de-ionized water and Iridite NCP, and tank
#14 contains de-ionized water and Chemeon TCP-HF. As needed the process tanks (Tanks A, #1,
#3, #5, #12, and #14) get small amounts of defoamer 15 to keep the foam from accumulating.
[Attachment F — Iridite ZDC Activator, Alumatte Etch, DcOx 710 Non-Chromated
Deoxidizer,Iridite NCP, Chemeon TCP-HF, and Defoamer 15 Safety Data Sheets]. The rinse
tanks only contain de-ionized water(no chemicals are added to the rinse tanks) and these tanks are
only used to rinse metal products after they have been immersed in the process tanks to remove
corrosive etches. Weekly,Monday—Thursday the rinse tanks are pumped directly to the treatment
tank. The rinse tanks are emptied on the following schedule:
- Monday: tanks #9 & #11
- Tuesday: tanks B, #2 & 46
- Wednesday: tanks #4, #9 & #13
- Thursday: tanks B, #2, #6 & 411
The pH is tested prior to puanping water from any of the rinse tanks into the treatment tank, if the
pH in any of the rinse tanks is 2, or less or 12.5, or more, the rinse water will not be pumped into
Premier Finishing YYaste Analysis Plmi
2
