N2L-P-,5000011
appropriate som pUng plan of MIL-TD-105, the lot represented by the sample •
shall be rejected.
4.4.2 Lot acceptance tests. The samples taken as specified in 4.3.2
shall be subjected to the tests specified in 4.5. Failure of the samples
to comply with any of the tests specified herein shall reject the Iot or
batch.
4.4.3 Inspection methods. Chemical analysis shall be wade in accordance
with the tests specified in 4.5 or by any applicable standard quantitative
method including spectrographic analysis to determine conformance to the
chemical requirements of 3.2 and 3.3. In case of dispute, chemical analysis
by the methods detailed herein shall be the basis for acceptance. Unless
otherwise specified, the chemical values specified in tables I, II and III
shall apply to the average of determinations made on the products.
4.5 Test procedures. Distilled water and analytical reagent grade chemi-
cals shall be used throughout the tests. Where applicable, blank determina-
tions shall be run and corrections applied.
4.5.1 Test solution preparation. Weigh out exactly 25 grams of the phos-
phating compound to be tested and transfer it to a 250 milliliter volumetric
flask. Fill to the nark with water. Mix the solution thoroughly. This
solution (0.1 gram sample per milliliter) is used in all tests, unless other-
vise specified in the individual test.
4.5.2 Phosphate determination. The percent phosphate (PO4) shall be
determined as follows:
4.5.2.1 Preparation of annonius molybdate reagent. Mix 55 grams of a=20-
ai-= unlybdate and 50 grams of amonium nitrate with 18 ml. of concentrated
ammonias hydroxide and 20 ml. of water. Stir, dilute to 700 ml. with water
and hest for 30 minutes with occasional stirring until all salts have dis-
solved. Dilute to one liter, let stand overnight and filter.
4.5.2.2 Test procedure. Pipette 10 ml. of the dilute test solution (see
4.5.1) into a 100 Ml. volumetric flask and fill to the ma-k with distilled
eater. Mix thoroughly and pipette 15 ml. into a 150 al. beaker. Add 45 ml.
of sister, 15 ml. of concentrated nitric acid and 6 grass ammonium nitrate.
Stir thorouSbly and filter into a 250 ml. beaker. Seat the solution to
exactly 80'e (176'F) and add 75 al. of ammonium molybdate reagent with rapid
stirring. Continue stirring for several minutes and allow to cool. When
the precipitate has settled, filter through a weighed, fritted glass crucible
of medius pososity, having a nominal maxlsun pore diameter of 10-15 microns,
and Wash with 1 percent nitric acid. Dry the crucible for 1-1/2 hours at
1.05 t 5'C (221 t 90F), cool in a desiccator and weigh. Calculate the percent
phosphate as follows:
6
2464
