APP/SSHP <br /> Soil Excavation at California National Guard Armory <br /> Lodi, California <br /> 9.0 STANDARD OPERATING SAFETY PROCEDURES AND <br /> CONTROLS <br /> All site personnel shall follow the following general operating procedures. These precautionary <br /> measures are designed to reduce the risks of inadvertent or accidental chemical exposure or <br /> injury during on-site operations. <br /> 9.1 PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS <br /> • Be familiar with SOPs and adhere to all instructions and requirements in the <br /> APP/SSHP/ANAs. <br /> • Medicine and alcohol can exacerbate the effects from exposure to toxic chemicals. <br /> While field operations are in effect, alcoholic beverage intake should be minimized or <br /> avoided during off-work hours. Prescribed drugs should not be taken by personnel on- <br /> site operations where the potential for absorption, inhalation, or ingestion of toxic <br /> substances exists unless specifically approved by a qualified physician. Employees shall <br /> not work when ill. <br /> 9.2 OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS <br /> 9.2.1 General Requirements for All Levels <br /> • All work shall be in Level D unless otherwise noted. <br /> • The SSHO shall conduct daily safety and health inspections to determine if operations <br /> are being performed in accordance with the APP/SSHP, OSHA, and any other pertinent <br /> regulations and contract requirements. <br /> 9 All personnel working at the site shall be adequately trained and thoroughly briefed on <br /> anticipated hazards, equipment to be worn, safety practices to be followed, emergency <br /> procedures, and communications. The SSHO shall conduct daily health and safety <br /> meetings prior to work at the site. <br /> • In the event of an accident, the appropriate OTIE personnel (specifically, the PM) shall <br /> immediately notify the California National Guard Armory point-of-contact, Sergeant <br /> First Class Thomas Lane. If appropriate, within two working days of any reportable <br /> accident, the OTIE SSHO and the PM shall complete and submit an Accident Report <br /> form. <br /> • Unless part of the project work, drums and containers are not to be disturbed. If any <br /> drum and/or container is leaking or bulging, the SSHO and the Activity POC must be <br /> notified immediately. <br /> • Report all injuries or work related illnesses to the SSHO or supervisor as soon as <br /> possible. <br /> • Personnel and equipment in the contaminated area shall be minimized, consistent with <br /> effective site operations. <br /> • All work will be conducted during daylight hours. <br /> OTI E 31 <br />
