The plan proposes to abandon the existing recovery wells RW-4 and RW-5,the
extraction well EW-1, and the monitoring well MW-14. These wells are in the path of proposed new
construction at your site and/or are no longer in use.
The plan proposes to drill or pull the existing wells to a depth of 35 feet(RW-4 , RW-5, and EW-1) or
30 feet(MW-14) and to grout them up following ASTM specification D5299.. These are the wells'
respective depths of record. Staff concurs with this procedure, with the note that if field observations
indicate deeper depths, the wells should be drilled/pulled to their total depth. Logs of the abandonment
activities, including amounts of materials used, should be kept and reported with the work report.
The proposal to replace RW4, RW-5, and MW-14 with similarly constructed wells as close to the
original locations as possible is acceptable. The proposal to drill the replacement wells without taking
soil samples for analysis is also acceptable, based on expected proximity to areas already characterized.
If a change in proposed locations or construction is necessary, please notify us. Staff understands and
concurs that EW-1 will not be replaced. When recovery of product resumes using the new wells, please
inform us.
Please inform staff of both this agency and of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division at
least two working days in advance of scheduled activities.
If you have AAany questions, please call me at(916) 255-3119.
iWIGG , C.E.G.
sociate Engineering Geologist
cc: Ms Margaret Lagorio, SJCPHS/EHD, Stockton
Mr. Brendan Shine,HSI GEOTRANS, Westminster, Co.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
