Box 8400
Denver, CO 80201-8400
LEPRINO FOODS REMEDIAL ACTION PLAN, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, (CASE
No. 3327)
We have reviewed the 30 June 1995 Remedial Action Plan prepared by Hydro-Search for
Leprino Foods in Tracy. The proposed remedial action plan (RAP)consists of
constructing a series of ground water extraction wells to gain hydraulic control and to
recover free and dissolved product. Extracted ground water would be discharged to
Leprino's waste water pretreatment system prior to off-site discharge to a publicly owned
treatment works. The plan is acceptable provided the following comments are responded
to.
The RAP indicates up to six recovery wells will be installed at the downgradient edge of the
free-product plume. The plan indicates initially three extraction wells will be installed and
tested short-term before three additional wells, if necessary, are installed. Which three
recovery wells are being selected for the short-term test? What is the anticipated radius of
influence of the extraction wells? What criteria will be used to determine how many
additional extraction wells will be required? What remedial measures are being considered
for the dissolved hydrocarbon plume?
Monitoring well MW-14 at the western side of the Leprino facility, installed in February
1995, has free product, indicating the free-product plume is larger than previously thought.
An additional monitoring well west of MW-14, likely to be off-site, is needed to fully
define the extent of the hydrocarbon plume. Will extraction wells recover ground water
near MW-14?
Please respond to our questions by 31 July 1995. If you have any comments, please
contact me at(916) 255-3121.
PATRICK MORRIS
WRC Engineer
cc: San Joaquin Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr. Roy Greengrass, Leprino Foods, Tracy
Mr. Chris Williams Hydro-Search, Golden, Colorado
