(GeoTrans) on behalf of Leprino Foods Company
(Leprino) for the facility at 2401 MacArthur Drive in Tracy (Site).
The Report describes the groundwater monitoring and sampling results along with the product
recovery system operation conducted during the first quarter of 2008. Leprino conducted the
work in accordance with Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP) No. R5-2007-0811.
Groundwater flow is to the north-northwest, and Leprino concludes that the hydrocarbon
plume is being captured by the gradient control wells at the Site. Leprino also states that the
product recovery wells are effectively removing free phase diesel from the groundwater.
Leprino recommends continued operation of the gradient control and product recovery
systems; adjusting pump intake levels in product recovery wells MW-3, MW-4, RW-6, and
RW-7; abandoning RW-4A; and eliminating the requirement to sample wells MW-14A,
MW-17, MW-18, and RW-2.
Our comments are included below:
1. Regional Water Board staff concurs with Leprino's recommendations to continue to
operate the product recovery and gradient control systems, and to adjust the pump
intake levels to effectively capture the free phase diesel from the groundwater. Leprino
should be aware that once the product has been adequately removed from the
groundwater, Leprino will need to evaluate whether any product remains trapped in the
soil.
2. Regional Water Board staff does not concur with Leprino's recommendation to
abandon RW-4A. Leprino needs to maintain this well and monitor for the presence of
free product.
3. Regional Water Board staff does not agree with Leprino's recommendation to reduce
the sampling program at the Site. Leprino must continue to monitor Site wells in
California Environmental Protection Agency
:tea Recycled Paper
