American Savings Hank - DES
January 7, 1994
Page -3-
Each soil sample was sealed with teflon tape, capped,
wrapped with duct tape, labeled, and placed in a cooler chilled
with Blue Ice. The samples were hand delivered under chain-of-
custody procedures to GeoAnalytical Laboratories in Modesto,
California, for analyses .
3.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene, and total xylene (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020, and for
total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline (TPH-G) by
Method 5030/LUFT. The laboratory results are presented in Table
1 . Laboratory report sheets indicating analytical methods used,
detection limits, and the results of the analyses are presented
in Appendix B.
TABLE 1
Soil Sample Laboratory Results
B T E % TPH-G
Detection 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 2.5
Sample Limits: g /kg jig/kg /k µg/kg mg/kg
679-TK1-SW-16 ND ND ND ND ND
679--TK1-S-19 ND ND ND ND ND
679-SP2S-E-1 ND ND ND ND ND
679-SP2S-W-1 ND ND ND ND ND
Unit Ccnversions:
µg/kg:parta per billion (ppb) S,T,E,X = benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene.
mg/kg:parts per million (ppm) TPH-G total petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as gasoline.
ND = none detected at or above laboratory detection limits.
4.0 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The laboratory analyses indicate no evidence of hydrocarbon
- contamination in the soil samples collected following over-
excavation of the south end of the former UST location. No
petroleum odors or staining were observed on the sidewalls or
floor of the excavation and groundwater was not encountered.
N-
CONDOR
