20 October 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0459
on the site. The historical use or non-use or releases of chlorinated c on the subject property related
to the dry cleaning process has not been documented, however, no documented. If a release of
chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds on the subject property had happened, an impact to the
subsurface may have occurred.
4.0. PROCEDURES
Seven probe borings were advanced using AGE's van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing
unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advanced soil probe borings using a
hydraulic or pneumatic hammer to drive soil and ground water sampling tools to specified depths.
4.1. GROUND WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
For the collection of"grab" ground water samples, two probe borings were advanced to the top of
the ground water table at a depth of approximately 45 feet below surface grade as inferred from the
depth to ground water measured on the adjacent Exxon/Shell site. Once ground water had been
encountered, a Geoprobe push driven water sampling device was advanced two to three feet into the
water bearing zone.
Grab ground water samples were collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly or a pre-
cleaned one-inch 0.01 slotted temporary well screen. Each ground water sample was extracted by
lowering a Teflon bailer through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen section.
Water samples were collected from the two borings and each water sample was transferred into three
40-m1 VOA vials containing 0.5 ml of hydrochloric acid (18%) as a sample preservative. After
collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and transported under
chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical,Inc. (MAI). Each sample was analyzed in accordance
with:
• EPA Method 8020 for volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and
total xylenes: BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),
One sample was also analyzed in accordance with:
• EPA Method 8260m for di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary butyl ether(ETBE),methyl
tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME) and tertiary butyl alcohol
(TBA).
