14 September 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0454
Page 2 of 5
2.4. REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND GROUND WATER DEPTH/FLOW DIRECTION
The property is situated within the-Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California, a large,
elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been
filled to its present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to
Recent, creating a nearly horizontal alluvial plain, extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the
south to the Klamath Mountains in the north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province
are comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, respectively. Rocks
comprising the basement complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed
to be metamorphic and igneous in origin. The northern and southern portions of the Great Valley
Province have been designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, respectively.
The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying recent alluvium are the
principal source of domestic ground water in the 13,500 square-mile San Joaquin Valley Ground
Water Basin(Basin 5-22). This region is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River(Stockton Deep
Water Channel). The nearest surface water feature is Fivemile Creek south west of the property and
the Mosher Slough is approximately 2,000 feet north of the property.
The estimated depth to ground water in the vicinity of the site is approximately 40 to 50 feet below
surface grade (bsg), based on the map titled Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater Spring 1996
published by the San Joaquin County Flood Control District and Water Conservation District
(FCD&WCD). Ground water gradient the adjacent gasoline station was calculated to be directed
toward the southeast. Ground water is considered to be of beneficial use and is used for domestic,
industrial and commercial purposes.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
The assessment of potential for HVOC and MTBE in soil-vapor and ground water will consist of
the following
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Soil-vapor collection and analysis;
• Ground water sample collection and analysis;
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in more detail below.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
