09 April 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0450
Page 2 of 4
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of the work includes the advancement of two soil probe borings for the collection and
analysis of shallow grab ground water samples. These samples will determine the down-gradient,
lateral extent of impacted ground water south of the site. The proposed scope of work will include
the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• Sample collection and analysis with laboratory reporting;
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the EHD. Any necessary City of Lodi
encroachment permit will be procured.In addition,an update to the health and safety plan presently
• on-file will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for
Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to
mobilization, the.soil probe boring locations will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance two soil probe borings using direct push technology (DPT) in
the vicinity of the southern sidewalk of Lodi Avenue to evaluate the lateral extent of the dissolved
fuel additive MTBE and petroleum hydrocarbons. Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated
in Figure 2; the proposed boring locations many be modified due to field observations or additional
borings may be advanced with approval by the EHD.
Grab ground water samples will be collected from the probe borings using a Geoprobe water
sampling assembly. Samples will be collected into 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA)vials, as
m
_appropriate,for:the required analyses. Ground water,sample.collection procedures are presented,in
Section 4.1.1.
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
